THE WORD OF LIFE

THE WORD OF LIFE

Scripture Reference: John 6:63
…The words that I speak unto you they are spirit, and they are life.

God is always talking to us concerning all aspects of our lives, but the problem has always been our inattentiveness to listen to His voice. During Church services, how attentive and receptive are you to the Word? In your home too what is the bond between you and the Word? Do you allocate quality time for the studying and meditating of the Word?

God wants you to be a Word person – someone who has a strong liking for the Word. Jesus said ‘…the words that I speak unto you they are spirit, and they are life’ (John 6:63). You’ve got to get to the place where you see the Word as your very life.

God has the plan of victory, success, good health and fulfilment for you – but you cannot enjoy all these glorious privileges of the Kingdom without the Word.

Meditate on these things (the words of the Scripture); give yourself entirely to them and the results will be that: your progress in life, ministry, business, studies and decision making will be evident to all (I Timothy 4:15).

GODLY FEAR

GODLY FEAR

Scripture Reference: Ecclesiastes 12:13 NLT

That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commandments, for this is everyone’s duty.

The fear of God isn’t the dread we often have for dangerous creatures like the monster. It’s, however, the reverence or respect that we show toward God and the things pertaining to His Kingdom. It’s normally described as ‘godly’ or ‘holy’ fear.

So how can one exercise godly fear toward God? In Deuteronomy 31:11-13, Moses was to read the Book of the Law in the hearing of the people of Israel every seven years. The purpose for which God instructed him to do that is such an important lesson you need to pick up.

In the twelfth verse it says, ‘Gather the people together…that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully observe all the words of this law.’

From this we can see that it’s of great necessity for the Word of God to be heard first and foremost before we can learn of His reverential fear. The importance of God’s Word can’t be stressed upon enough. It’s only the Word that can unveil the nature, the ways, thoughts, plans and purposes of God to a person.

We need His Word to clearly show us the dos and don’ts of His Kingdom. Availing ourselves to the Word – through hearing as well as personal study – is the only mean by which you can learn to fear the Lord. We can’t separate godly fear from obedience. How can we say we revere and respect God if we don’t walk in His ways?

Therefore, give yourself to the ministry of the Word; allow the Word to produce in you the Spirit of the fear of the Lord, which would in turn activate the Spirit of wisdom in your life (Psalm 111:10).

THE CALL FOR INTERCESSORS

THE CALL FOR INTERCESSORS

Scriptural reference Gen 18:22

22) Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. 23) And Abraham came near and said, ‘Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24) Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it?

The entire people of Sodom and Gomorrah had been taken away by King Chedorlaomer as captives after defeating them in a war. It took Abraham to rescue and restore them to their lands. Nevertheless, they did not change their wicked and abominable ways of living. As a result, the cry of innocent blood went up before God against the people.

In verse 22, we read that ‘two men turned away from there and went toward Sodom.’ We later see in Gen 19:1 that these two men were angels who were on a mission to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. As I read, this portion of scripture really stood out to me and that is; ‘But Abraham still stood before the Lord.

He did that in order to intercede for the people of that land. He was certainly aware of the sinful lifestyle the people were living. Instead of condemning, he rather stood in the gap on their behalf.

Mostly, instead of having compassion toward those who are living helplessly in sin, we tend to ‘nail them to the cross.’ Such a character is not what our Father, Who is the true Judge, desires from us. In first Timothy 2:1 onwards, He rather urges us to supplicate, pray, intercede and give thanks on behalf of ALL people – whether good or evil. The reason being; He desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

It must be noted that this call is not for a select few. All believers have been given that responsibility. So I encourage you to begin interceding for your family, friends, country and the whole world. You are anointed to effect dramatic changes in situations that seem impossible only if you will persevere in your intercession. Who knows what would have happen had Abraham reduced the number of the righteous people to three. With that, Lot and the two daughters would have been enough to save the entire land from destruction.

Grace unto you,

Osei Barnie.
