RESPOND TO GOD’S VISITATION

RESPOND TO GOD’S VISITATION

Scripture Reference: Exodus 3:3, 4
3) Then Moses said, ‘I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.’ 4) So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, ‘Moses, Moses!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’

God appeared in the bush in this amazing state for a particular reason; and that was to catch the attention of Moses. By now Moses was about eighty years; forty years had gone passed since he fled from Egypt to Midian. Over there in the foreign land, he became the shepherd of his father’s-in-law flock. What a change in his state of living!

But now, it was his set time for a visitation from God, which he couldn’t afford to miss. God had chosen him as the vessel to be used for the deliverance of His people. Would Moses play his part by responding to the call? It was only when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look that He spoke unto him (v.4).

Moses had been called even before he was born (Jeremiah1: 5) but it was required of him to respond to the heavenly call. He fulfilled that by turning aside to look. In other words, he gave his full attention to the presence of God.

Beloved, the same is required of you as well. God seeks your maximum attention in your fellowship with Him. Do you usually speed-read your Bible or quickly rush out of His presence during prayer time? Then it is time to spend quality time with Him. There is a lot that He’s got to tell you, which will undoubtedly change your life – but for that to happen, your full concentration is required.

Start afresh if need be in this year. Do well to purpose in your heart and mind to closely walk with your Father. As He has promised, this is a year of the open door. However, you must rightly position yourself in order for you to partake in the fulfilment of this prophecy in your life.

ARE YOU A WORD PERSON?

                ARE YOU A WORD PERSON?

Scriptural reference: Exodus 9:20-21, 25

20) He who feared the word of the Lord among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his livestock flee to the houses. 21) But he who did not regard the Word of the Lord left his livestock in the field. 25) And the hail struck throughout the whole land of Egypt, all that was in the field, both man and beast…

Before God sent the seventh plague – heavy hail – on the land of Egypt, He sent His minister (Moses) to deliver His Word unto Pharaoh and his people. According to the Word, they were to bring their livestock and servants from the field into their homes in order for them not to perish by virtue of the unprecedented hail that was to rain later.

As always, there were mixed responses from the people. The Bible says some of them feared or revered the Word of the Lord and did accordingly. In contrast, others disregarded God’s Word and left their livestock and servants outside.

Lo and behold the hail rained down fiercely and those who gave heed to the Word reaped the results of their obedience whilst the rest who gave no attention paid for the penalty of their stubbornness.

God is always talking to us concerning all aspects of our lives, but the problem has always been our inattentiveness to listen to His voice. During Church services, how attentive and receptive are you to the Word? In your home too what is the bond between you and the Word? Do you allocate quality time for the studying and meditating of the Word?

God wants you to be a Word person – someone who has a strong liking for the Word. Jesus said ‘…the words that I speak unto you they are spirit, and they are life’ (John 6:63). You’ve got to get to the place where you see the Word as your very life.

God has the plan of victory, success, good health and fulfilment for you – but you cannot enjoy all these glorious privileges of the Kingdom without the Word.

Meditate on these things (the words of the Scripture); give yourself entirely to them and the results will be that: your progress in life, ministry, business, studies and decision making will be evident to all (I Timothy 4:15).

EVEN CLOSER WITH HIM

EVEN CLOSER WITH HIM

Scriptural reference: Gen 5:21-24

21) Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. 22) After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. 23) So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24) And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.

This portion of Scripture challenges me every time I come across it.  The thought of a man, who walked with God so much so that he was not worthy of living among other men but, to depart to heavenly glory is surely inspiring.

Yes! That was the man called Enoch. You might say ‘Oh, it was easy in his day to walk with God than it is in ours’. Well, that sounds a reasonable excuse but truly that was not the case. Sin was as just predominant in those early days of humanity as it is in modern times. The wickedness of the people was so great and their hearts were only full of evil intentions (Gen 6:5 para).

In the midst of all these someone purposed in his heart not to follow the crowd but did the opposite – by walking with the righteous God. To walk with God means to have an intimate or, better still, close relationship with Him. This was also the lifestyle of David which he revealed when he said ‘my soul follows close behind You;…’(Psalm 63:8).   The scripture says ‘after he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God…’ (v.22). This shows us that there was a point in Enoch’s life when he made up his mind to be intimate with God. There is a lesson for us here. That is, just like Enoch, we can come to the same decision and determination as well. Why don’t you make that decision this year?

To live such a life you should allocate quality time to study the Word. In addition, spend time in prayer and also listening for the voice of God. Spend time to know more about Him; His character, ways, plans and purposes for your life.

With this, you will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, His voice and as a result would experience the glory of heaven here on earth even on a daily basis. Such is His desire for you so why not start from today?

Grace unto you,

GIVE GOD YOUR ATTENTION

Scriptural reference: Exodus 3:3, 4

3) Then Moses said, ‘I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.’ 4) So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, ‘Moses, Moses!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’

The burning bush phenomenon is one of the amazing manifestations of the glory of God. The second verse of this chapter says it was the Angel of the Lord who appeared in the bush. According to the Bible, this Being belongs to the class of the Godhead; and hence He is God (see Judges 13:3, 21, 22).

In Egypt, Moses lived the life of a prince and had access to all the luxury you can imagine. However, he left all these pleasures behind as he endeavoured to fulfil his call as the deliverer of the Israelites, which eventually led to his flight to a strange land (Midian).

God appeared in the bush in this amazing state for a particular reason; and that was to catch the attention of Moses. By now Moses was about eighty years; forty years had gone passed since he fled from Egypt to Midian. Over there in the foreign land, he became the shepherd of his father’s-in-law flock. As He has promised, this is a year of His glory and the manifestation of the glory in your life. However, you must rightly position yourself in order for you to partake in the fulfilment of this prophecy in your life.
